In a proactive move towards promoting safety and awareness among children, the Gwalior Police initiated a comprehensive campaign focused on educating students, especially girls, about women-centric crimes and the critical significance of understanding good touch and bad touch.

Police Campaign for Child Safety and Awareness

Under the guidance of Police Superintendent Mr. Rajesh Singh Chandel and Additional Superintendent (Urban) Mr. Akhilesh Rainwal, along with DSP of Women’s Safety, Ms. Kiran Ahirwar, the Gwalior Police have been actively conducting awareness campaigns across various schools, educational institutions, and public places in the district. Recently, at Krishna Public School in the Murar area, the police team, led by Sub-Inspector Madhu, engaged with schoolchildren to enlighten them about prevalent crimes against women, issues related to women, and the concept of good touch and bad touch.

Significance of Educating Girl Students on Good Touch and Bad Touch

  1. **Empowerment through Knowledge:** Education about good touch and bad touch empowers girl students to recognize and differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate physical contact. It instils in them the confidence to identify and respond to uncomfortable situations.
  2. **Promoting Safety Awareness:** By imparting this knowledge, girls understand when to seek help and whom to approach if they face any form of uncomfortable or suspicious behaviour. They are made aware of emergency helpline numbers like 100/112 and 1090, encouraging them to reach out to the authorities promptly.
  3. **Encouraging Openness:** The campaign emphasised creating an environment where girls feel comfortable reporting incidents that make them uneasy. They were educated about how to express their concerns through mediums like complaint boxes or confidential reporting channels within the school.
  4. **Respecting Personal Boundaries:** Educating about good and bad touches helps in establishing personal boundaries. Girls learn that it’s okay to say no to any touch that makes them uncomfortable and that their bodies are their own.

The Approach Taken by the Police Team

Under the guidance of DSP Kiran Ahirwar, the police team engaged with the students, explaining the concepts of good touch and bad touch using simple language and relatable examples. They ensured the children understood the importance of recognizing and reporting uncomfortable touches, while also providing information about seeking immediate help from the police or helplines. By initiating such awareness campaigns and focusing on educating girl students about good touch and bad touch, the Gwalior Police aim to create a safer environment for children. This proactive approach not only empowers girls with essential knowledge but also fosters a sense of security and confidence in seeking help whenever needed. Ultimately, this knowledge equips them to navigate the world more safely and confidently.
